Come Alive Outside, ROC and the County welcomed the Canada C3 ship this past weekend. Canada C3 is a 150-day expedition around the three coasts of Canada, traveling from Toronto to Victoria, through the Northwest passage. They will be making stops in many communities along the way, interacting with people and learning about the Canadian landscape, through community events, art, music, scientific research, and storytelling. Through this expedition they hope to explore the themes of diversity and inclusion, reconciliation, youth engagements and the environment, and connect Canadians by sharing what they learn via their website and social media.

During their visit in Prince Edward County, Canada C3 participants were welcomed with a reception at the Prince Edward Yacht Club in Picton Friday evening. Chief Donald Maracle of Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte gave a warm welcome, which included a tradition Mohawk prayer. Mayor Robert Quaiff and the Commodore of the Yacht Club, Brian Skuffham gave their greetings followed by Geoff Green, Expedition Leader, introducing the Canada C3 participants.

The Canada C3 group was then guided on a Picton walking tour by Peter Lockyer visiting significant sites such as Crystal Palace. After working up an appetite they returned to the Yacht Club for a meal together, followed by an intimate concert featuring Country Singer and June Award Winner, Aaron Pritchett.

On Saturday, representatives from Come Alive Outside and local ROC youth toured the group through the County making various stops including the Wellington Women’s Half Marathon, Sandbanks Provincial Park, The Wellington Farmer’s Markets & The Great Canadian Cheese Festival.

The Canada C3 ship will be making stops in Kingston, Brockville, Prescott, Cornwall, Akwesasne, and Montreal on the first leg of their journey. Visit www.canadac3.ca to find out when they will be in your city, or follow along by visiting their interactive map or virtual classroom on the website, or social media

We encourage everyone to follow this incredible journey that is sure to lead to a richer understanding of our people and country.
