County School Gets Upgrade After Design Challenge

We’re really excited to be completing building out the design of the Come Alive Outside Design Challenge at CML Snider school just in time to start the new school year. This exciting program brought Landscape Design students from Algonquin College, Fanshawe College and Seneca College to The County last fall to work with our design team and the students at CML to design Outdoor Learning Areas within the school grounds. The winning team was announced at last year’s Landscape Ontario Award of Excellence Ceremony.

The project features a boulder socialization circle with tree planting in the junior school yard area. As well as sand play pit with large fallen log to sit or climb on, sub-surface drainage, a wooden table/platform with wooden log stools and engineered wood fibar safety surfacing all built around three existing coniferous trees. Two new trees were also planted adjacent to the sand pit to provide shade. All areas adjacent to the improvements that were disturbed by construction were reinstated with sodded lawn on imported topsoil.

We couldn't make this project possible without the generous donations from Grenville Stone Inc., Willowlee Sod Farm, Connons Nurseries, Trenton, Dibbits Excavating and Landscape Supply, Home Hardware, The Miller Group, Picton and Wentworth Landscapes.
