Prairie Roots Reimagined

Originating from the Canadian Prairies, our clients envisioned an outdoor sanctuary that paid homage to their Saskatchewan roots while also serving as a functional space for relaxation and entertainment. Understanding the clients’ desires while remaining committed to our environmental stewardship, the design journey unfolded. The vision for their country home involved a fusion of naturalised prairie-style landscaping, integrated with a newly renovated 19th-century red-brick farmhouse. The home addition introduced a modern edge within the rural setting, incorporating steel architectural elements. This allowed the landscape design to play within the space between contemporary and flowing themes of nature. The result is a striking design that combines the naturalistic charm of the prairies with sleek and modern architectural elements.

Eco-Conscious Oasis

This rural property serves as both a canvas for aesthetic landscaping and an opportunity for environmentally beneficial design. Native perennials and trees were thoughtfully chosen for their drought tolerance and ability to enhance biodiversity. These plants aid in water conservation while attracting a variety of birds and pollinators that find sanctuary among the gardens and trees. Every element works in harmony, blending beauty with purpose and inviting all who visit to appreciate the delicate balance between art and ecology.

Maximizing Lake Views.

The landscape was designed with multiple terraces, each with it's own distinct them and strategically positioned to maximize the breathtaking lake views. These areas serve as ideal spaces for both entertaining guests and relaxing, the spaces include a custom art orbs hammock nestled in a sandy beach area, a screened-in cabana complete with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen and comfortable seating, and a welcoming fire pit area perfect for cozy gatherings. A revitalizing sauna offers a serene retreat, while an art studio provides inspiring views of the lake, fostering creativity and relaxation. On windy days, clients can retreat to a tranquil dining and seating area located at the front of the house, surrounded by lush prairie gardens. This peaceful oasis invites clients and visitors to unwind and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Key Design Elements

Pool-side Elegance

The design style is grounded in the long, linear rectangle pool, which features a weathered limestone coping that is embraced by the natural Ipe wood pool terrace. The modern cabana we designed and built is a direct complement to the house addition, incorporating identical contemporary steel finishes. The walkways, finished in exposed aggregate, elegantly connect, mirroring the stone texture of the adjacent pebble beach.
Illuminating Enchantment

As night falls the true enchantment unfolds. The outdoor lighting was strategically placed to create depth and unveiling details within the gardens such as art installations. Walkways and seating areas are also bathed in a soft light for safety and to accentuate its surroundings.
Gateway to Tranquility

When approaching the home and gardens is a custom gate which then leads to a winding paved driveway flanked by trees that directs you to the parking area.
